“UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic stressed the situation in southeastern Europe and that the judgments of the International War Crimes Tribunal (ICTY) verdicts were judgments of individuals, not states in a meeting on Tuesday.
Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic was in New York on Tuesday to meet with Guterres and will participate in a special session of the UN Security Council dedicated to the work of the Hague Tribunal on Wednesday.
‘This is developing into some sort of condemnation of Croatia, which is absolutely not true and should break the prejudice that Croatia was an aggressor in Bosnia and Herzegovina. I repeat, indictments and convictions were individual . The individual is responsible for any crimes committed,’ said Grabar-Kitarovic, adding she did not want to pass judgment conditions for the differences between the two ethnic or ‘open some new debates about the wars and guilt.’
‘We regret any crime and we express deep reverence for every sacrifice, especially victims in these cases. But one has to be very realistic and look at everything Croatia has done for Bosnia and Herzegovina, and also be realistic about the future of relations between the two countries,’ said Grabar-Kitarovic and stressed that the two countries ‘oriented to each other.'” (translated from Vecernji List)
