“Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said in Zagreb today that Croatian fishermen will not pay penalties that they will receive from Slovenia for violating the border. He explained that they will find legal mechanisms to help Croatian fishermen to challenge Slovenian fines. He also announced that they will respond with the same measures against Slovenian fishermen.
Plenković expressed his regret that ‘Slovenia continues the unacceptable policy of implementing the arbitration process from which Croatia has left, and arbitration judgments that Croatia does not recognize.’
‘Taking into account international law, it is impossible to unilaterally implement an arbitration decision, which you can ask Slovenian international lawyers,’ Plenković told reporters after today’s energy debate in Zagreb. He stressed that the sending of Slovenian payment orders to Croatian fishermen was ‘deeply wrong.’
‘These are unilateral moves. We were, as a serious country, ready to answer and we will answer. Therefore, the Croatian police will respond with the same measures to Slovenian fishermen if they violate Croatian territory to clearly demonstrate that our message is solid,’ said the Croatian Prime Minister.” (translated from Delo)
