“The State Election Commission (SEC) held a meeting tonight after receiving decisions on appeals from the administrative court and certified the final results of the first round of local elections for municipalities. There were complaints and claims made by parties.
There will be no rerun of the vote for the first round in any municipality, and the second round of elections will be held on October 29. They will take place in 25 municipalities using 1,517 polling stations to vote for mayor, according to the SEC.
There will be runoff elections in the following Skopje municipalities: Gazi Baba, Kisela Voda, Butel, Suto Orizari, Cair, and Saraj.
The Administrative Court dismissed all charges except one of the 24 VMRO-DPMNE to annul the voting at a polling station in the municipality of Saraj for members of the city council, but the court made a decision to reject the opposition VMRO-DPMNE.
In a decision published on the website, the court stated that the SEC mistakenly determined that the opposition party VMRO-DPMNE concerns about the balloting for the mayor of Skopje was for city council. However, the administrative court, from the original minutes, found that the SEC correctly decided to reject the complaint, since the evidence shows that the Electoral Code has not been violated.(translated from Sitel)
