Thousands of people gathered in the Vukovar city centre today at the invitation of Mayor Ivan Penava to call attention to the fact that Croatian institutions have made little progress in prosecuting war crimes from the 1990’s.

The central square in Vukovar was filled with numerous citizens of Vukovar but also those that came from all parts of Croatia. Disturbing testimonies by victims that have not seen justice served after 27 years were in the forefront. Victims talked about atrocities that took place after the city fell in 1991, which included murder, castration and rape.

Mayor Ivan Penava thanked all that turned out for the protest and provided their support, as well as those that “relived all the suffering and provided themselves with a night without sleep” by giving their testimonies.” (Voice of Croatia)
