“The teaching union in Kosovo is staging a one-day strike today. The union is in dispute with the ruling coalition partners over an agreement reached before these parties came to power in 2017 on recognising the contribution of teachers who worked during parallel education system in 90s when Kosovo was under Slobodan Milosevic’s repressive regime.
Rrahman Jasharaj, head of the Trade Union of teaching staff, said that Monday’s national strike is continuity of the unionists to achieve their rights. Jasharaj said that the Government has failed to implement their request on compensating teachers who worked with a symbolic payment during 90s after Kosovo Albanians organised a parallel education system because of Serbia’s repressive measures against Albanians in Kosovo. ‘If these requests are not met after Monday, the strikes will continue in April,’ Jasharaj said.” (Gazeta Express)
