“President Croatia Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović was on a working visit to  Turkey, where she discussed strengthening bilateral economic relations and stimulating investment, as well as migration crisis and relations between Turkey and the European Union with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

After a working meeting with the President of the Republic of Turkey, the Croatian President said that her visit, albeit a working one, was very valuable for further development of the relationship between Turkey and Croatia, as well as regarding talks on topics of interest to both states.

‘Croatia and Turkey have excellent relations, we have no open issues but there is room for further improvement, particularly in the area of economy, trade and investment. The visit of President Erdoğan to Zagreb has strengthened our relations and I look forward to our next meetings. Trade exchange last year was only EUR 350 million, and I remember you said that we have to reach one billion euros in trade. I believe that is possible. There are numerous opportunities in tourism and we see an increased number of Turkish tourists, but the possibilities are much greater. So I use this opportunity to invite the Turkish people to visit Croatia,’ said the Croatian President.

President Grabar-Kitarović also looked at the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina. ‘I am grateful that you understand the need for Croatia and Turkey to continue to play a role as promoters of the process in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which will bring this country closer to the prosperity of all citizens and enable it to become a member of the European Union,’ she said. She stressed the importance of all three constituent peoples in Bosnia and Herzegovina,  the need to continue with constitutional reform that will ensure the prosperous future of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and enable it to continue the negotiations with the European Union as soon as possible. ‘We look forward to providing our neighbors with all the help on that path,’ said President Grabar-Kitarović.” (translated from the Office of the President of Croatia)
