“Former prime minister and one-time leader of the HDZ, Ivo Sanader, was found guilty on counts of war profiteering on Monday in a re-trial of the so-called Hypo Bank Affair.

Sanader received a sentenced of two-and-a-half years in jail and ordered to repay the government 3.6 million kuna, pending appeal.

The USKOK anti-corruption agency claims that Sanader, during his tenure as Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister, received the 3.6 million kuna provision for securing the loan for the purchase of buildings for Croatia’s international diplomatic missions. Given that the loans were secured during the Homeland War, USKOK had maintained that Sanader was a war profiteer.” (Voice of Croatia)
