“BiH Presidency Chairman Bakir Izetbegović spoke tonight to Al Jazeera Balkans after meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. He said that the most talk was about the Election Law of BiH, but also that Merkel asked other questions about current issues from our country.
‘There has been clarification of the views of Chancellor Merkel who is in a position to help with the Election Law, because friends from Europe are concerned that we will not be able to form the House of Peoples and the backbone of the government, which means we will send a bad message for our European path and that we will not be able to start negotiations with EU. We spent an hour explaining the details, Ms Merkel and her advisers explained that the problem is in collision with two principles,’ Izetbegovic said in a statement to Al Jazeera.
Izetbegovic said that it is impossible to reconcile what Dragan Covic and the civil principle from the Constitution stand for, as well as the Strasbourg judgment.
He noted that Merkel is realistic and that he can not give any concrete recommendations within 15 minutes.
‘What will happen is that representatives of the Venice Commission will come and we will have to be cooperative here, it’s like Rubik’s cube, but it’s not impossible, especially if we have friends with us’ Izetbegovic said.” (translated from Klix)
