“Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper issued a proclamation for April 3, 2018, as the 25th anniversary of the State Partnership between the Republic of Slovenia’s Armed Forces and the Colorado National Guard Day.

‘I’m proud of what Slovenia and Colorado have achieved over the past 25 years of partnership,’ Hickenlooper said. ‘Slovenia and Colorado have built a strong friendship around our shared mountain and rural cultures, and this helps keep our state, nation and world safe.’

The SAF, the State of Colorado, and the U.S. military share a heritage of mountain warfare that dates to World War II.

The SPP relationship came into being when U.S. European Command employed the National Guard to assist nations in Central and Eastern Europe to prepare for NATO membership. Colorado assisted Slovenia through NATO accession in 2004.” (DVIDS)
