Republican Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce announced last week he would not seek re-election. He has served for 26 years in the House representing Orange County, California.

Regardless of election outcome, this was scheduled to be his last year as Chairman due to Republican internal rules allowing only six years in the post.  Royce said he would spend his last year focused on the “urgent threats facing our nation.”

Please send your memories of the Chairman’s work in the Balkans. We will share these in the coming weeks.

For example, in March 2005, Royce used his position on the International Relations Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations to hold a hearing on the United Nations. There was a focus on more than $4M missing from the UN Mission in Kosovo.
